Epic has a very flat structure as well, which can be cool, since you're flying close to the sun, but then you realize there are not many growth paths to pursue. Most people in Implementation don't make it past 5 years. ![]() You have to set your own boundaries, and they will cross them at some point. You can take on as much work and challenges are you like at Epic they will never tell you it's too much. I then moved to an international office and switched product teams, for which there was very little support. I started in the implementation division, where I traveled 70% of the time for a couple of years. Even if Epic quits healthcare, this campus can be bought by government and changed to a local historical site as a museum.Įpic was a very challenging experience. Work and life balance is ruined.Īpparently, for a private owner, investment on staff is less attractive to investment on campus which is real estate and can sustain for the owner. Management still wants the same amount of new things coming up while more efforts are spent elsewhere. A lot of efforts are spent on inefficient internal workflows, approvals, like many companies that becomes bigger. Migration from Visual Basic to Web has been ongoing for more than 10 years but is still not done. The tradeoff is more bugs, and more time to spend on fixing bugs. This is especially obvious after introducing the more frequent development phases, and the result is that more development logs are being made per developer. That means each staff is working much more than before. There's obviously big growth of number of customers and workload, but the total number of employees grows very slowly for a few years. Once a good company, but now only a place to extract your energy. ![]()
